28/08/09: game vs Napier Boys High School.
Despite a game high 34 points from Joshua Bourk, the team suffered a season ending loss to Napier Boys High School. While the team played well in the first half, the injury to international student Alan Hong took its toll.
The players tried hard but our efforts fell short on the final outcome. We finished the competition in 4th place, which in light of our competition is quite an achievement.
Next game for the team?…vs WCC Staff team!
23/08/09: Game vs St Johns – Lost 106-64.
The team rallied behind our captain Joshua Bourk who only minutes before the game started, was told that his grandfather had suffered a stroke. It was a huge setback for Josh. He chose to bravely battle on with the team saying that it was something his grandfather would have wanted him to do.
We started the game well and for a brief minute stood toe to toe with our opponent during the first quarter. St Johns then applied the pressure in the second and third quarters and we had no answer. We came together in the final quarter and put together some nice plays with Josh and Johan finding their shooting touch. However the outcome was well and truely decided by then.
Considering the circumstances the boys put in a great effort and while disappointed with the loss are eager to support our captain during this sad time.
Josh’s grandfather passed away during the game and he was whisked away immediately afterwards. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to Josh his Mum and their whanau who have been great advocates and supporters of our basketball programme.

ps We are awaiting confirmation of the time and venue of our playoff for 3rd and 4th place.
20/08/09: This week it’s great to have everyone back healthy again after having a spate of rolled ankles following our Aussie trip.
The senior boys play highly rated St johns College of Hastings. We know the boys are up against a formidable opponent and are looking forward to the challenge.
The key to us doing well is to stayed disciplined with our effort in the face of adversity and to execute our plays both defensively and ofensively.
We know the boys can do well, we hope that they come in the right frame of mind to acquit themselves and the school well.
